Jalandhar police, in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, have demolished an illegal construction belonging to an individual accused of drug trafficking. The action took place on Friday in the Basti Sheikh locality of the city.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Municipal Corporation team, under the supervision of ACP West Aatish Bhatia and Assistant Town Planner Sandeep Kumar, razed the unauthorized construction. The property was linked to Gagandeep Singh, who faces multiple drug trafficking charges. The construction had been raised at House No. 366, Street No. 4, Tej Mohan Nagar, in Basti Sheikh.
Police officials stated that Gagandeep Singh has seven First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against him, with five specifically pertaining to drug trafficking under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is currently incarcerated in Kapurthala Central Jail in connection with an NDPS Act case.
ACP Bhatia indicated that such enforcement measures are ongoing and will continue as part of the district’s campaign against drug abuse, referred to as “Yudh Nashian Virudh” (War Against Drugs). The operation was conducted in compliance with the directives of Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh and under the oversight of DCP City Aditya S. Warrier and ADCP-2 Madhvi Sharma.
The demolition signifies a firm stance by the Jalandhar authorities against individuals involved in criminal activities, particularly drug smuggling. Such actions are often part of broader strategies by law enforcement agencies to disrupt the networks of drug traffickers and deter further criminal operations. The authorities aim to reclaim public spaces and demonstrate zero tolerance towards illegal activities, thereby enhancing community safety and well-being.
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have been actively pursuing a policy of zero tolerance towards drug trafficking, engaging in coordinated efforts with various civic bodies to dismantle drug networks. The demolition of illegal structures associated with drug offenders is a key component of this strategy, intended to serve as a deterrent and to remove the ill-gotten gains of criminal enterprises. The operation underscores the administration’s commitment to creating a drug-free environment for its citizens.
This action follows a series of crackdowns on drug peddlers and smugglers in the region, reflecting a concerted effort by the police to curb the menace of drug abuse. Authorities have emphasized that individuals involved in such activities will face stringent legal action, including the forfeiture of property acquired through illicit means. The municipal corporation’s role in demolishing illegal constructions ensures that property laws are also enforced, preventing individuals from benefiting from or utilizing assets derived from criminal endeavors.
The campaign against drugs in Jalandhar is multi-faceted, involving intelligence gathering, enforcement operations, and rehabilitation programs. The demolition of the alleged drug smuggler’s house is a visible manifestation of the law enforcement’s resolve to tackle the problem at its roots. The administration has been actively encouraging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities and providing information that could aid in combating drug trafficking.
The specific location of the demolition, Basti Sheikh, is an area where the police have focused their anti-drug operations. The presence of multiple FIRs against the individual, particularly under the NDPS Act, highlights the severity of the charges he faces. His current detention in Kapurthala Jail further indicates the progress of legal proceedings against him.
The “Yudh Nashian Virudh” initiative aims to create a cohesive approach involving all stakeholders, including law enforcement, civic bodies, and the community, to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking. The consistent enforcement measures, such as property demolitions, are designed to send a strong message to those involved in the drug trade and to reassure the public of the government’s commitment to their safety and security. Future actions are expected to continue this enforcement pattern across the district.
