Two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple has unveiled “Union Town,” the concluding film in her extensive exploration of labor rights. Following its premiere at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, the documentary is set to screen at the Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival, where Kopple shared insights into her latest work.
The Chenab Times has learned that “Union Town” focuses on the struggles of United States-based delivery and warehouse workers for major corporations like UPS and Amazon, alongside app-dependent “deliveristas.” These workers are depicted in their fight for fundamental rights, dignity, and fair treatment in their respective industries.

Kopple, celebrated for her impactful documentaries such as “American Dream” and “Hearts and Minds,” has consistently used her filmmaking prowess to shed light on the experiences of ordinary people fighting for justice. “Union Town” is the culmination of a thematic trilogy that began with films exploring the coal miners’ strike in “Harlan County, USA” and the precarious employment of truck drivers in “Rolling Stone Papers.” Her dedication to these narratives underscores a career-long commitment to amplifying the voices of those often marginalized in the broader economic discourse.
