Tragedy struck the Rajwar area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district today, as a 3-year-old boy fell victim to a leopard attack. The victim has been identified as Burhan Ahmad, the son of Mohammad Kamal Mir, residing in Marchwali Nichhama.
News agency GNS reported that the horrifying incident unfolded in the early hours of this morning when young Burhan Ahmad was suddenly pounced upon by a leopard right outside his family’s home. The sheer brutality of the attack sent shockwaves through the community.
The leopard, in a brazen act, dragged the minor boy away from his home, leading to a frantic pursuit by his family and villagers. In their determined efforts to save the child, they managed to chase the leopard away, but not before Burhan sustained critical injuries.
Swift action was taken as the injured child was rushed to a nearby healthcare facility located in Behnipora. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the young boy succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The incident has cast a pall of grief and mourning over the entire locality.
This heart-wrenching episode is not an isolated one, as several similar incidents have been reported from the region in recent times. The repeated occurrences have spurred the local community to demand immediate intervention and measures from the authorities to prevent any such future tragedies.
