NEW DELHI: Prices for commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders have been increased by Rs 195.50, effective from Wednesday. This revision, announced by state-owned oil companies, comes amidst a significant surge in global oil prices influenced by escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now retails at Rs 2,078.50 in the national capital, Delhi. This follows a previous hike of Rs 114.50 per 19-kg cylinder on March 1.
In contrast, the rates for domestic cooking gas LPG cylinders have remained stable. The last adjustment for domestic cylinders, which are typically 14.2-kg, was an increase of Rs 60 on March 7. Consequently, a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to be priced at Rs 913 in Delhi.
Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, the primary state-owned fuel retailers, are mandated to revise the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) and LPG on the first day of each month. These revisions are based on international market benchmarks and the prevailing foreign exchange rates.
The current rise in global oil prices, reportedly by almost 50 per cent, is attributed to disruptions in energy supply chains caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. This development has had a ripple effect on fuel costs.
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices have maintained their current levels, remaining unchanged since a reduction of Rs 2 per litre was implemented in March of the previous year. In Delhi, petrol is currently priced at Rs 94.72 per litre, and diesel is sold at Rs 87.62 per litre.
