Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh announced on Tuesday that the long-delayed Barapullah Phase-III corridor is nearing completion and is scheduled for inauguration by June 30.
The minister conducted a thorough inspection of the ongoing construction work at the site, engaging with senior PWD officials and engineers to review progress. He affirmed the government’s commitment to completing the critical mobility corridor within the stipulated timeline, noting that the remaining construction activities are advancing rapidly.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Barapullah Phase-III project, which has faced nearly a decade of setbacks due to technical, environmental, and procedural challenges, is anticipated to significantly alleviate traffic congestion across East and Central Delhi. Upon its operationalization, the corridor is expected to enhance connectivity between Sarai Kale Khan, Mayur Vihar, NH-24, the DND Flyway, and Ring Road, thereby substantially reducing commute times for residents.
This project represents a significant urban infrastructure undertaking. A notable feature of the corridor is India’s first flyover designed with a dedicated cycle track, aimed at promoting eco-friendly and sustainable modes of transportation. Officials indicated that the corridor will also incorporate pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and contemporary urban design elements.
A key engineering aspect involves the construction of the bridge structure over the Yamuna floodplain. According to officials, meticulous attention has been paid to ensure that the natural flow of the river remains unobstructed. The bridge’s construction features pillar spans extending approximately 125 metres, minimizing interference within the active river zone and consequently reducing the environmental impact.
During his site visit, Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh emphasized that the government’s primary objective has been the timely completion of projects that residents of Delhi have awaited for an extended period.
He further elaborated, stating, “Barapullah Phase-III is not merely a flyover project; it is a transformative mobility corridor that will fundamentally alter the way Delhi moves.”
The minister also noted that the government has actively managed the necessary approvals, ensured inter-departmental coordination, and addressed technical challenges to prevent further delays in the project’s execution.
PWD officials confirmed that finishing works, including those related to carriageways, connecting loops, integration points, safety systems, the dedicated cycle tracks, and landscaping, are currently being executed at a rapid pace. Regular site inspections are being conducted to maintain quality standards and ensure the project’s completion adheres to the schedule.
Once finalized, the Barapullah Phase-III corridor is projected to become a vital signal-free transport artery in Delhi, simultaneously contributing to the promotion of greener urban mobility infrastructure.
