CHANDIGARH, PUNJAB: A low-intensity blast occurred near a railway track in Patiala, Punjab, late Monday night, causing damage to the track. Police have also recovered an unidentified body near the Shambhu-Ambala rail track, though authorities have stated it is not yet clear if the death is related to the explosion.
The Chenab Times has learned that the incident took place around 10 p.m. in close proximity to a rail line designated for freight trains. Following the report of the blast, senior police officials, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), immediately proceeded to the site. Personnel from the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force were also dispatched to the location.
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma confirmed the occurrence of a “low-intensity blast” to news agencies. He also stated that a body, found in a dismembered condition, was recovered near the site. When questioned about a potential link between the deceased and the blast, Sharma indicated that the matter is currently under investigation.
To aid in the investigation, forensic experts have been summoned to the scene to collect relevant samples from the blast site. The recovered body is being examined to establish its identity and the cause of death.
This incident follows a similar event in January of this year, when a blast on a dedicated freight corridor track in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, resulted in damage to a train engine and injuries to the loco pilot.
