A groom was fatally shot during his wedding procession in the Kheta Sarai police station area of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly by a relative of the bride who opposed the union. The incident occurred on Saturday, leading to the registration of a case and an ongoing manhunt for the suspects.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deceased has been identified as Azad Bind, whose wedding procession was underway when the attack took place. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kunwar Anupam Singh, the accused, identified as Pradeep Bind, and an associate, Ravi Yadav, intercepted the procession on a motorcycle and opened fire on the groom.
Azad Bind sustained critical injuries from the gunfire and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The SSP stated that a report of the shooting at the wedding procession prompted an immediate investigation by law enforcement.
“A relative of the bride, Pradeep Bind, was unhappy with the marriage and, along with his associate Ravi Yadav, arrived on a motorcycle and fired at the groom, resulting in his death upon reaching the hospital,” SSP Singh explained to reporters. He further added that based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law. Multiple police teams have been constituted and deployed to apprehend the accused individuals.
The father of the deceased, Ram Lakhan Bind, has alleged a history of animosity and targeted violence by the accused against his family. He recounted a previous assault where he sustained a broken leg while traveling to Mumbai, an incident he attributes to the same individuals involved in his son’s death. Ram Lakhan Bind informed ANI that he was traveling in a car with two children, two adults, and the driver when the earlier assault occurred.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the volatile nature of disputes that can erupt even during celebratory occasions. Police are continuing their efforts to gather evidence and bring the perpetrators to justice. The investigation is expected to delve into the motive behind Pradeep Bind’s alleged opposition to the marriage and the circumstances leading to the violent confrontation.
