New Delhi, November 10
Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has said he wished to remain in India rather than getting involved in “complicated politics” with China’s leaders “who don’t understand the variety in cultures and exert tight control”.
“I know Communist Party leaders since Mao Zedong. Their ideas (are) good, but sometimes they exert extreme, tight control,” he said from Dharamshala. “Regarding Tibet and also Xinjiang, we have our own unique culture. The more narrow-minded Chinese Communist leaders do not understand the variety of different cultures,” he said. Noting China consisted not only of ethnic Han people but also other different groups, he said. He was speaking at an online press conference hosted by the Tokyo Foreign Correspondents Club. — TNS
