Officials said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 56 places across 14 districts in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
NIA conducted searches in the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) funding case (RC-03/2021/NIA/DLI), according to the investigating agency.
“NIA, JKP, and CRPF conducted searches at 56 places in the districts of Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, and Rajouri in J&K today (08.08.2021),” according to a statement.
The complaint was filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on February 5, 2021, in response to a Ministry of Home Affairs decision about “separatist and secessionist actions of JeI, an unlawful group under the UA(P) Act, even after its proscription on 28.02.2019.”
“The members of the organisation have been collecting funds domestically and abroad through donations, particularly in the form of Zakat, Mowda, and Bait-ul-Mal, purportedly to further charity and other welfare activities, but these funds are instead being used for violent and secessionist activities,” NIA claimed. JeI has also been encouraging impressionable Kashmiri youth to participate in disruptive separatist actions and recruiting new members (Rukuns) in J&K.”
According to the NIA, searches were undertaken at the homes of the association’s office bearers, members, and offices of trusts allegedly managed by JeI. “Various damning documents and technological gadgets were taken from the suspects’ homes during today’s searches.”
According to the NIA, the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
