A Delhi court on Thursday remanded Rahul Meena, 19, to four-day police custody in connection with the alleged murder of the 22-year-old daughter of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. The accused was produced before the Saket court, where police sought his custody for further investigation into the crime.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Meena was taken to the crime scene earlier in the day by a Delhi Police team to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the death of the victim. The victim, an engineering graduate, was reportedly strangled with a mobile phone charger and also sustained head injuries from a heavy object.
Meena was apprehended by the police on Wednesday evening from a hotel in the Dwarka area of Delhi, where he had allegedly been hiding after the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive behind the crime might stem from a personal grudge. However, investigators are also exploring the possibility that the accused initially intended to commit theft.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Vijay Kumar, the accused had previously worked as a domestic help for the victim’s family for approximately one year. He was reportedly dismissed a few weeks prior to the incident due to alleged debts amounting to Rs 2-2.5 lakh, which were purportedly incurred through online betting. Following his arrest, police recovered approximately Rs 2 lakh in cash, which was allegedly stolen from the victim’s residence.
During the time of the incident, the victim was alone at home. Her parents were reportedly at the gym and returned to find her critically injured. They promptly rushed her to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead due to her injuries. The police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the complete details surrounding the murder.
