JAMMU, April 27: A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu on Monday extended the judicial remand of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah by ten more days in connection with a three-decade-old terror-related case. The separatist leader was presented before the court upon the conclusion of his prior ten-day remand period.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Shah has filed a bail application, which is anticipated to be heard on the subsequent date of the court proceedings. During the hearing, the National Investigation Agency requested further custody of Shah, citing the need for additional questioning. Following the arguments presented by both sides, the court granted the agency an additional ten days of remand for the accused.
Shabir Ahmad Shah was initially arrested by the Srinagar branch of the NIA in Delhi on April 17. His arrest pertains to a 1996 case involving a militant attack on police personnel during a militant’s funeral. The Patiala House Court had previously granted the NIA permission for his transit remand, after which he was produced before the NIA court in Jammu on the following day.
The separatist leader had recently been released on bail after serving nearly seven years of imprisonment in connection with other cases. The NIA court’s decision to extend his remand underscores the ongoing investigation into the alleged terror case.
