The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted its Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 on Sunday, ensuring elaborate security measures and comprehensive arrangements at examination centres nationwide.
Thousands of candidates gathered at centres across the National Capital and various other cities early in the morning to participate in one of India’s most sought-after competitive examinations, a gateway to prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). A significant deployment of security personnel and invigilators was in place at all centres to facilitate the smooth and fair conduct of the examination.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) initiated its services ahead of the usual schedule on select routes, commencing from 6 AM. Special arrangements were implemented to assist candidates in reaching their designated examination venues punctually, adhering to the strict reporting times mandated by the UPSC.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the examination comprised two sessions. The General Studies paper was administered in the morning, followed by the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) paper in the afternoon. Candidates were granted entry only after thorough verification of their admit cards and valid photo identification. Stringent prohibitions were enforced on the use of electronic devices, including mobile phones and smartwatches, within the premises of the examination centres.
Outside numerous examination venues in Delhi, aspiring civil servants were observed engaged in last-minute revision, while their parents and guardians waited nearby. Police personnel were actively managing crowds and traffic flow in the vicinity of the examination centres to maintain order.
This year’s Civil Services Preliminary Examination has garnered considerable attention amidst reports suggesting that the UPSC might introduce a mechanism for quicker access to provisional answer keys following the conclusion of the examination process. This potential introduction is widely regarded as a significant stride towards enhancing transparency for the candidates.
According to available reports, over eight lakh aspirants are participating in the examination across the country this year. This substantial number underscores the enduring popularity and highly competitive nature of the Civil Services Examination, a cornerstone of public service recruitment in India.
