SRINAGAR: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Baramulla has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into allegations of misconduct involving police personnel at the Kunzer Police Station. The directive follows an incident that reportedly occurred on June 10, involving an advocate and police officials in the Dhobiwan village of Baramulla district.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the inquiry has been assigned to a Gazetted Officer to ensure a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation. The probe aims to scrutinize the complete sequence of events, including the actions of all individuals involved, the circumstances that led to the registration of a case, and any claims of misconduct or excessive force.
The reported incident unfolded when a police party from Kunzer Police Station was executing a status quo order issued by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) in Tangmarg. Police sources indicated that legal and preventive proceedings were initiated in accordance with established legal frameworks.
Subsequently, an altercation was reported to have taken place inside the Kunzer Police Station premises, involving an advocate and police personnel. Following this confrontation, allegations of improper conduct by police officials surfaced.
Official statements confirm that the inquiry will involve recording statements from all relevant parties and a meticulous examination of all available evidence. The District Police Baramulla has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the rule of law and showing due respect to all stakeholders, including members of the legal fraternity.
The police department stated that should the inquiry establish any lapse, misconduct, or deviation from standard operating procedures by any police personnel, appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken without delay. The department further clarified that the investigation into the registered criminal case and the internal departmental inquiry will be conducted separately and on their own merits.
