SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s economic prosperity hinges significantly on the robust development and promotion of its tourism sector, according to deliberations held Tuesday at the Civil Secretariat. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah engaged with representatives from the travel, tourism, and business communities to discuss strategies for enhancing tourism promotion, streamlining business facilitation, and ultimately bolstering the region’s economic growth.
The Chenab Times has learned that the meeting was attended by prominent figures from various tourism bodies, including Irshad Ahmad of TAAI, Zahoor Qari, President of SKÅL International Kashmir, Burhan Misgar, Chairman of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), and Waseem Goosani, President of TASK. These delegates presented the Chief Minister with a comprehensive overview of the pressing issues confronting the tourism sector.
During the discussions, the stakeholders highlighted the challenges impeding the industry’s progress and put forth actionable recommendations aimed at increasing the influx of tourists, improving the ease of travel logistics, and elevating the overall visitor experience. They also offered suggestions to solidify Jammu and Kashmir’s position as a preferred global tourism destination.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed the administration’s steadfast commitment to cultivating a supportive ecosystem for the tourism industry. He emphasized that tourism is a vital engine for economic expansion and a significant source of employment generation within the Union Territory.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that all concerns and proposals put forth by the stakeholders would undergo thorough examination and be addressed in a time-bound manner through coordinated efforts with the relevant government departments. He acknowledged the critical role these stakeholders play in shaping the region’s economic landscape.
Following the tourism sector discussions, Tariq Ghani, Secretary General of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, also met with the Chief Minister. Their conversation focused on matters pertinent to trade, tourism, and the broader business community of Kashmir, underscoring the interconnectedness of these sectors for regional development.
The emphasis on tourism as a primary driver of growth reflects a strategic approach to leveraging the Union Territory’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
