Seven members of a family, including a six-month-old infant, were miraculously rescued alive from the rubble of their two-storey home in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district following its collapse due to incessant rainfall. The incident occurred late Thursday night in Dhirjikheda village, under the Purwa Kotwali police station limits.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that a police team, upon receiving distress calls, immediately rushed to the scene. With the assistance of local residents, a meticulous rescue operation was launched. The collective efforts of the police and villagers led to the extraction of all seven individuals—five women, one man, and the baby—from the debris. The timely intervention of the rescue teams is credited with saving all lives.
Following their extrication, the rescued individuals were promptly transported to the Community Health Centre in Purwa for immediate medical assessment and first aid. Subsequently, they were admitted to the district hospital for further observation and care. Medical officials confirmed that all seven individuals are out of danger and are recovering from the ordeal.
The local administration has initiated a thorough assessment to ascertain the exact cause of the house collapse and to quantify the extent of the damage incurred. Further legal proceedings related to the incident are also underway, according to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Arvind Kumar. The collapse is believed to have been exacerbated by the heavy and continuous downpour that has affected the region.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of structures to extreme weather conditions, particularly in areas where older constructions may not be equipped to withstand prolonged periods of heavy rainfall. Local authorities are expected to review building safety norms and potentially issue advisories to residents in flood-prone or unstable areas to prevent future tragedies.
