Jammu, August 29: The investigation into the alleged rape and subsequent death of a 15-year-old girl in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir has been transferred to the Crime Branch, officials confirmed on Saturday. The case involves allegations of a prolonged sexual assault by a school teacher and the girl’s death during an attempted pregnancy termination.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the teenager, who was reportedly a student, died on August 20. The incident has prompted demands for a thorough and swift investigation, leading to the transfer of the case from the local police to the specialized Crime Branch. This move aims to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into the complex circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
Prior to the transfer, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the local police had taken initial steps in the investigation. The SIT had successfully arrested six individuals in connection with the case. Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, Sarah Rizvi, acknowledged receipt of the official communication.
