Netizens outraged over sensationalist media coverage of Pahalgam terror attack

Pahalgam, April 25 — Following the tragic attack in Pahalgam, anger has spread across the local community, not just towards the perpetrators but also towards certain sections of the national media.

As per the Kashmir Bulletin, a number of citizens have expressed concern with what they perceive as biased and inflammatory coverage by mainstream media outlets, commonly referred to as “Godi media.”

They accuse these outlets of exploiting the tragedy to fuel communal discord and propagate divisive narratives.

Residents have criticized the way the media has reported the incident, describing it as sensationalist and detached from the reality on the ground. “Instead of focusing on the loss and grief of the victims, the media is using this tragedy to stoke hate and division,” said one local.

Another resident added, “The media coverage is far removed from the truth; they are not telling the real story of what is happening here.”

Civil society groups and activists in the Valley have called for a more responsible approach to journalism. “This is a time for unity, not for turning one community against another. We need media to be truthful and empathetic, not to spread further hate,” said a local teacher.

The overwhelming sentiment among the people is that peace and justice should be prioritized over the media’s attempts to sensationalize the tragedy.

“The media should focus on finding those responsible and supporting the affected families, not creating unnecessary divisions,” said a local shopkeeper in Pahalgam.

Many urged national media outlets to report with integrity and empathy, keeping in mind the fragile peace of the region. “At a time when we need healing, we cannot afford to have narratives that tear us apart,” another local said.
