2G Mobile Internet Restored in J&K’s Doda After Week-Long Suspension

DODA — The Jammu and Kashmir administration restored 2G mobile internet services in Doda district on Tuesday, following a week-long suspension amid protests over the Public Safety Act detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik on September 8, The Chenab Times reported. Normalcy has largely returned, with broadband services and most restrictions under Section 163 BNSS lifted on Sunday.

Educational institutions reopened Monday after three weeks. However, residents reported challenges accessing online banking and government services due to 2G’s limited bandwidth. “We welcome 2G restoration, but it’s inadequate for mobile banking and online shopping,” said Sarazi resident Firdous Ahmad, highlighting hardships from recent rainfall and flash floods.

Doda SSP Sandeep Mehta assured gradual easing of restrictions but warned of strict action against those posting provocative content online. Malik’s detention, cited for disturbing public order, sparked violent protests, leading to initial curbs on internet and movement.
