New Delhi: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy, abducted from the bustling Chandni Chowk market, has been safely rescued by the Delhi Police following an intensive five-day search operation. The suspected kidnapper has also been apprehended.
The incident, which sent shockwaves through the city, was reported on April 19 when the toddler’s mother approached the police. She stated that her child had been abducted from the market around 7 p.m. The police immediately registered a First Information Report (FIR) and constituted multiple teams to trace the child and identify the perpetrators.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia, the investigation involved a meticulous analysis of CCTV footage from Chandni Chowk and its surrounding areas. The surveillance revealed the involvement of a man and a woman who were observed loitering suspiciously in the vicinity throughout the day before eventually abducting the child. These individuals were reportedly attempting to target other children before successfully kidnapping the toddler.
The police teams diligently tracked the movement of the suspects by analyzing round-the-clock footage from various locations for five consecutive days. This relentless pursuit eventually led the investigation to the Khajuri Khas area in northeast Delhi.
On April 24, police successfully apprehended one of the accused, identified as Mohammad Firoz, a native of Siliguri in West Bengal, in Khajuri Khas. The kidnapped child was also recovered unharmed from a rented accommodation in the same area. During interrogation, Firoz revealed that he works as an e-rickshaw driver and had recently met a woman named Kali near Hanuman Mandir in Kashmere Gate. Kali allegedly enticed Firoz with the promise of easy money and convinced him to participate in child abduction.
The successful rescue and apprehension mark a significant achievement for the Delhi Police, highlighting their commitment to child safety and their capability in handling complex kidnapping cases through extensive surveillance and coordinated efforts.
