Jammu and Kashmir: Poppy Straw Seized in South Kashmir, Woman Booked

SRINAGAR: Anantnag Police have seized nearly six kilograms of poppy straw during a search operation in the Ashmuqam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, leading to the booking of a local woman.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Police Station Ashmuqam received specific and credible intelligence regarding the alleged storage of poppy straw at the residence of a woman identified as Mst Fatima, daughter of Ghulam Hassan Tak, a resident of Amad. She was suspected of storing the contraband for illegal sale and distribution.

Acting on the tip-off, police promptly registered an FIR, number 54/2026, under Section 8/15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. An investigation was immediately launched into the matter.

During the course of the investigation, a search operation was meticulously conducted at the suspect’s residence. This search operation resulted in the recovery of approximately 5.960 kilograms of poppy straw. The contraband was seized on the spot after all legal formalities prescribed under the law were completed.

Police officials stated that further investigation is currently underway. The objective is to trace the origin of the recovered narcotics and to identify any individuals or networks that may be involved in the illegal drug trade operating within the region.
