Bengaluru: The Yeshwantpur Traffic Police have registered a case against six individuals, all reportedly minors, for allegedly obstructing the passage of an ambulance by engaging in dangerous stunts and reckless riding on a city road. The incident, which occurred on July 4, has drawn criticism and prompted a police investigation.
Incident Details and Public Outrage
The obstruction took place near the MEI Junction in Yeshwantpur. According to reports, a group of bikers rode in front of an ambulance, performing stunts and preventing it from moving forward, despite the emergency vehicle’s siren being active. The ambulance was reportedly carrying a patient who required urgent medical attention, and the delay caused by the bikers’ actions raised significant concern and outrage online, with videos of the incident circulating on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2:30 AM on July 4, on the stretch between Goraguntepalya and Yeshwanthpur. Eyewitnesses and dashcam footage from the ambulance captured the disturbing scene, showing the bikers creating a significant impediment to the emergency services. Several media outlets reported that the bikers were performing wheelies and other dangerous maneuvers, effectively turning a section of the road into a makeshift stunt arena.
Police Action and Investigation
Following the incident, police initiated an investigation, examining viral videos and CCTV footage from the area to identify all those involved. One individual, identified as Rahul, was reportedly detained for questioning. Authorities have stated that stringent legal action will be taken against all identified individuals once the investigation is complete, emphasizing the seriousness of obstructing an emergency vehicle and endangering lives. Police have also indicated that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend any remaining suspects.
The police are committed to ensuring such dangerous behavior is not repeated on the city’s roads. The registration of a suo motu case underscores the gravity with which such incidents are being treated. Authorities are analyzing the dashcam video and CCTV footage to establish the identities and roles of all the accused. The incident highlights a broader concern about road safety and the need for greater awareness and respect for emergency services on public thoroughfares.
While the primary focus of the investigation is on the bikers’ actions, this incident also brings to light the broader challenges faced by emergency services in navigating city traffic. The delay, even for a few minutes, can have critical consequences in medical emergencies. The authorities have assured that all steps will be taken to prosecute the offenders to the fullest extent of the law, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and the unimpeded operation of emergency vehicles.
