SRINAGAR: The High Court of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh has introduced revised procedures for the constitution and sittings of its Special Benches, mandating that these benches, when convened in addition to the regular roster benches, will typically begin their sessions on Friday afternoons.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the directive, issued via Order No. 1102 of 2026/RG dated July 16, 2026, by the Office of the Registrar General, modifies existing practices concerning the formation of Special Benches. This revision aims to streamline court operations and ensure efficient case management.
Under the new order, following their initial sitting on a Friday afternoon, subsequent sittings of a Special Bench will be determined at the discretion of the bench itself. This provides flexibility for the judges to schedule further hearings based on the volume of cases and the requirements for their proper adjudication.
The revised procedure seeks to balance the need for specialized benches to address specific legal matters with the overall workload of the High Court. By designating Friday afternoons for the commencement of these benches, the court intends to create a more predictable schedule while allowing for adaptive management of caseloads.
