A shocking incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh where a 48-year-old man allegedly shot his 19-year-old daughter in the head while she was asleep. The motive behind the alleged attack was her refusal to marry a man of his choosing and her insistence on marrying the person she loved.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the egregious act took place on Monday in Bhongaon town, located within the Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh. The injured woman, identified as Shazia, sustained critical wounds and was initially rushed to the district hospital. From there, she was referred to Saifai Medical College for advanced treatment, where she is currently undergoing medical care.
Superintendent of Police (City) Arun Kumar Singh informed PTI that upon receiving the report, he personally visited the scene. He engaged with family members and neighbours to gather details and understand the circumstances leading up to the shooting. He detailed the sequence of events, stating that Shazia was in a relationship and wished to marry her partner. However, her father, identified as Asin Khan, who reportedly works as a labourer, had finalized her marriage with another individual scheduled for November 19.
According to police reports, when Shazia expressed her firm refusal to comply with her father’s decision and reiterated her desire to marry the man of her choice, Khan allegedly resorted to extreme violence. He is accused of entering her room while she was asleep and firing a shot at her head. The sound of the gunshot alerted Shazia’s mother, Kherunisha, who immediately rushed to her daughter’s room.
Kherunisha found her daughter critically injured and promptly transported her to the district hospital. The severity of her injuries necessitated her transfer to Saifai Medical College. Following this harrowing event, Kherunisha lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband, Asin Khan, formally accusing him of attempting to murder their daughter.
In a swift response to the FIR, law enforcement authorities apprehended Asin Khan. He was arrested while reportedly on his way to the Bhongaon police station shortly after the alleged shooting of his daughter. The arrest was confirmed by police officials, who are continuing their investigation into the incident. The father has been taken into custody and is expected to face charges related to attempted murder and other relevant offences under Indian law. The community in Mainpuri has expressed shock and dismay over the incident, highlighting concerns about domestic violence and the rights of young women in the region. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation and legal proceedings to ensure justice for the victim.
