Governor Kavinder Gupta has emphasized the critical role of Sanskrit as the bedrock of Indian civilization, culture, and its profound knowledge traditions, calling for its active promotion among the younger generation.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Governor made these remarks while addressing the inaugural session of a two-day All India Sanskrit Bharati Seminar, which commenced at the Institute of Nursing, managed by former minister Rakesh Pathania, at KBVM, Malakwal, near Nurpur.
Governor Gupta officially inaugurated the seminar by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He extended his congratulations to the functionaries of Sanskrit Bharati and the participants who had gathered from various parts of the country for the event.
The Governor articulated that Sanskrit has been instrumental in preserving India’s intellectual heritage through ancient scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, and Mahabharata. These texts, he noted, contain invaluable knowledge spanning philosophy, science, ethics, and fundamental human values. He also took the occasion of the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to highlight the late leader’s pivotal contribution to national integration, particularly through the amalgamation of approximately 562 princely states into the unified Indian Union. In observance of National Unity Day, a pledge for national unity was administered to all attendees.
Gupta stated that the narrative of India’s history should extend beyond accounts of empires and foreign invasions. He stressed that the contributions of eminent scholars and scientists, including luminaries like Aryabhata, Panini, Sushruta, and Bhaskar Acharya, merit greater recognition within the current education system. He further cited Takshashila and Nalanda as significant testaments to the nation’s historically rich educational legacy.
Furthermore, the Governor underscored the importance of preserving mother tongues, asserting that their consistent use in homes and daily life is essential for their continuity. He expressed appreciation for the dedicated efforts of Sanskrit Bharati in their mission to popularize Sanskrit as a language for everyday communication. Governor Gupta called for an integrated approach, advocating for the combination of ancient knowledge systems with contemporary advancements in technology, artificial intelligence, and scientific research. This synergy, he suggested, could unlock deeper insights into the contributions of Sanskrit literature to fields such as mathematics, astronomy, and Ayurveda.
Describing Himachal Pradesh as a land endowed with a rich tapestry of sages and cultural traditions, the Governor highlighted the discernible influence of Sanskrit on local dialects and ancient inscriptions found within the state. He recalled that Sanskrit was accorded the status of the second official language in Himachal Pradesh in 2019 and urged educational institutions within the state to actively promote its study and research among students.
