Opposition Unites to Bring No-Confidence Motion Against Government in Wake of Manipur Violence

In a powerful display of unity, Opposition parties in India have announced their decision to table a no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha, demanding a comprehensive statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the escalating violence in Manipur. The motion is set to be presented on Wednesday, with the Congress party leading the charge.

Congress Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, confirmed that the notice for the no-confidence motion has been prepared at the party office and will be submitted to the Lok Sabha secretary general’s office before 10 am. This comes after the INDIA alliance, comprising 26 opposition parties, agreed to pursue the motion as a last-ditch effort to press the government into addressing the alarming situation in Manipur.

The Manipur violence, which has persisted for a staggering 83 days, has been a cause of deep concern for the Opposition. Stories of horror and instability continue to emerge from the region, and the repercussions are being felt in neighboring states, making the situation particularly fragile for India’s border areas.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that it is imperative for Prime Minister Modi to come forward and provide clarity on the government’s plans to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur. The Opposition’s demand for answers aims to hold the government accountable and ensure that concrete steps are taken to address the pressing issue.

In response to the looming no-confidence motion, the Congress party has issued a whip to all its MPs, directing them to be present in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The party MPs are scheduled to convene at 10.30 am for a meeting in the Congress Parliamentary Party office, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the cause.

Before the motion can be tabled in the House, the INDIA alliance must submit a notice before 10 am, which will be read out by the speaker during the proceedings on Wednesday. The opposition’s collective effort signals a strong determination to put pressure on the government and make sure the Manipur crisis remains at the forefront of national discourse.

The Manipur issue has transcended party lines, prompting opposition leaders from various parties to convene at the chamber of the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, at 10 am on Wednesday. The meeting aims to discuss urgent parliamentary matters and strategize further actions to address the ongoing crisis.
