Death Toll Rises to 4 in Doda-Bound Vehicle Mishap near Qazigund on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

In a heart-wrenching development following the Doda-bound vehicle mishap near Qazigund on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, the toll has now tragically risen to four lives lost. Three out seven individuals who were initially injured and referred from GMC Anantnag to SKIMS Soura have succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by Dr. Farooq, the Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Soura, in a statement to The Chenab Times.

Earlier our report detailed the accident that occurred around 6 a.m. in the vicinity of the Walnut Factory in Qazigund. The collision involved an ECCO vehicle, bearing registration number JK06B-0901, and an unidentified speeding truck. The ECCO vehicle was attempting a U-turn when it was struck by the fast-moving truck, leading to the tragic overturning of the vehicle.

The updated details on the individuals from Kotli Panchayat of Kastigarh area of Doda district involved are as follows:

  1. Gh Qadir Bhat – Gh Qadir remains in critical condition, and medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize him.
  2. Mohd Niyaz Bhat (Correction: Nawaz Bhat) – Unfortunately, Mohd Niyaz Bhat, previously identified as Niyaz Bhat, has lost his life in this tragic incident.
  3. Mubeena Begum – Mubeena Begum, too, has sadly succumbed to her injuries.
  4. Afsha Banoo (Correction: Apsha Banoo) – Afsha Banoo, previously referred to as Apsha Banoo, has also tragically lost her life.
  5. Maroof Mumtaz Bhat – Maroof Mumtaz Bhat, son of Mumtaz Ahmed Bhat had previously lost his life in the aftermath of the collision.
  6. Mehvish Akhter – Thankfully, Mehvish Akhter remains alive and continues to receive medical attention.
  7. Mumtaz Ahmad Bhat – Mumtaz Ahmad Bhat, who was the driver of the ill-fated vehicle, also survives and is receiving medical care.

Authorities have registered a case under FIR No. 206/23 U/S 279, 337 IPC in PS Qazigund, as The Chenab Times reports earlier. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as officials work diligently to piece together the events leading up to the collision.
