Sakshar Bharat Mission also known as SBM scheme—in which near about 6000 youths of J&K were engaged at various levels in 2011—who are working enthusiastically at every level of the Districts in Jammu and Kashmir UT.
The Chenab Times correspondent quoting a request letter from one of the employee Riyaz ul Haq Shah from Budgam reads that,
“I would like to draw your attention to the fact that about 6000 youths in Jammu and Kashmir were engaged at various levels in 2011 under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme Sakshar Bharat Mission, who enthusiastically worked at every level of the district in Jammu and Kashmir. We, employees contacted the government to regularize our services. In this regard, the senior officials of the government and the relevant department received a positive response in our favor and we were promised that regularity will be completed in the near future. But unfortunately file Stuck in the Department of Education due to unknown reasons we were also given a small amount of compensation what was being done was not enough under the Minimum Wages Act and is still Pending for more than 2 years Which has shocked all the employees and our families and has come to the point where more and more people are starving. Now, we, the employees working under this scheme, request Your goodself to intervene in this matter and take the matter with Missionary of Secretary School Education so that our pending honorarium may be released before Eid and our services may be regularized at an earlier.”
In this time of pandemic, government is only hope for all the employees who works on wages. The Chenab Times had delivered a live story on Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir via our Facebook page. All the employees working on wages, whether SBM Employees or other employees like PHE(Jal Shakti) employees are suffering due to pending wages.
Some months before, The Chenab Times had covered a story of employees of PHE department, requesting for release of pending wages and some category of employees got the pending wages. Similarly, the SBM Employees are eagerly waiting for government action. As of now, there is Pandemic, lockdown and no employee is regular in the said scheme, they even can’t work as labourers. Regularisation of these employees will benefit them and secure their families.
