Srinagar, October 20: The Territorial Army has launched a recruitment rally for 131 soldier general duty positions across its 173rd, 174th, and 175th Engineer Regiments, inviting Class 10 pass domiciles from Jammu and Kashmir to join the part-time force amid heightened border security imperatives. The initiative, set to unfold from November 15 at the Army Logistics Group in Panzgam, Kupwara, emphasises engineering support roles along the Line of Control, offering seven-year initial enlistments extendable for operational exigencies.
The advertisement, accessed by The Chenab Times, details 38 vacancies in the 173rd Regiment, 34 in the 174th, and 59 in the 175th, restricted to Union Territory residents aged 18-42 with a minimum 45 per cent aggregate in matriculation and at least 33 per cent per subject. Tattoos visible in physical training dress disqualify applicants, while relaxations in physical standards apply to kin of servicemen, ex-servicemen, war widows, and sportspersons. A bilingual written examination on general knowledge, mathematics, and reasoning—scoring two marks per correct answer with penalties for errors—awaits physical qualifiers, alongside mandatory medical checks including urine tests.
The district-wise schedule, spanning November 15-24, accommodates the region’s topography: Chenab Valley’s Ramban, Kishtwar, and Doda report on the 15th at 0500 hours; Rajouri, Poonch of Pir Panjal and Reasi on the 16th; Baramulla and Kulgam on the 17th; Pulwama and Shopian on the 18th; Budgam, Ganderbal, and Srinagar on the 19th; Anantnag on the 20th; Kupwara on the 21st; Bandipora on the 22nd; Leh and Kargil on the 23rd; and Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, and Samba on the 24th. November 25-27 are reserved for medical follow-ups. Strict 1000 hours entry cut-off ensures no late admissions, with all stages—from document verification to fitness trials—conducted on-site.
Selection hinges on rigorous physical benchmarks: 162 cm height (157 cm for Ladakhis), proportionate weight, 5 cm chest expansion, a sub-5:45 minute 1.6 km run, six pull-ups, zigzag balance, and a nine-foot ditch leap. Applicants must furnish originals and photocopies of 11 documents, including birth, domicile, caste, character, and relationship certificates, plus Aadhaar, PAN, and 20 unattested passport photos on white backgrounds.
As the Ministry of Defence’s auxiliary arm, the Territorial Army augments regular forces in specialised domains like infrastructure and disaster aid, fostering local integration in frontier areas. Officials warn against fee-charging intermediaries, stressing free participation, with a comprehensive notification impending in Employment News. Prospective recruits should track territorialarmy.in for real-time advisories.
