Russian Suspect in Moscow General Shooting Detained in Dubai, Extradited to Russia

FSB announces swift international cooperation leads to capture of alleged shooter in attempted assassination of senior GRU officer.

A Russian citizen suspected of shooting Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, deputy head of Russia’s military intelligence agency GRU, has been detained in Dubai and extradited to Russia, authorities said on Sunday.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that the suspect, identified as Lyubomir Korba, a 65-year-old Russian national, was apprehended in the United Arab Emirates with assistance from local partners and handed over to Russian officials. The shooting occurred on Friday in a residential building in northwestern Moscow, where Alekseyev was attacked and wounded multiple times before the assailant fled the scene.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the FSB stated that Korba carried out the shooting, while two other Russian citizens—Viktor Vasinin and Zinaida Serebritskaya—acted as accomplices. Vasinin was detained in Moscow, and Serebritskaya is believed to have fled to Ukraine. The agency indicated that the operation involved coordination across borders to secure the primary suspect quickly.

Alekseyev, who serves as a deputy chief of the GRU and has been involved in security-related discussions amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict, was hospitalized following the incident. Russian media reports indicate he underwent surgery and regained consciousness, though his condition was initially described as serious. Investigators opened a criminal case on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Ukraine of orchestrating the attack, describing it as an effort to disrupt ongoing negotiation efforts aimed at resolving the conflict. Ukrainian officials have denied any involvement in the incident.

The detention highlights rapid law enforcement cooperation between Russia and the United Arab Emirates. The FSB released footage showing the suspect’s transfer to Moscow, underscoring the international dimension of the case. Authorities continue to investigate the motives and full network behind the attempt.

This incident adds to a series of reported attacks targeting senior Russian military figures since the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine. Russian officials have repeatedly attributed such actions to Ukrainian special services, though independent verification of these claims remains limited.

The shooting took place as Alekseyev was reportedly en route to work, with some accounts suggesting the assailant posed as a delivery courier to gain access to the building. The attack unfolded in the stairwell, where Alekseyev was shot in the extremities before resisting further harm.

Moscow’s prompt announcement of the detention and extradition reflects intensified efforts to counter perceived threats to high-ranking officials. The involvement of multiple suspects, including one who fled abroad, points to a coordinated operation, according to the FSB.
