NPR Details and Purpose
The National Population Register, initially compiled in 2010 and subsequently updated in 2015, is designed to collect details of individuals residing in villages and towns across the country. It aims to create a detailed record of usual residents.
When questioned about the status of the NPR, Mr. Narayan clarified, “No decision has been taken on NPR. We have not issued any directive regarding that.”
Information available on the Census website indicates that the NPR was scheduled to be updated concurrently with the Housing Listing and Housing Operations for the upcoming Census. The first phase of Census 2027, encompassing Housing Listing and Housing Operations, is slated to commence on April 1 and conclude on September 30.
According to the Census website, “To incorporate changes due to birth, death and migration, the NPR would be updated along with House Listing and Housing Operations of the forthcoming Census. The objective of the NPR is to create a comprehensive database of usual residents in the country. No document will be collected during this exercise.”
