Jammu and Kashmir Congress Urges Structured Peace Process Following Iran-US Ceasefire

Srinagar, April 8 – The Jammu and Kashmir Congress unit has welcomed the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran, emphasizing the critical need to transform this pause into a concrete and organized peace process.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hameed Karra, issued a statement on Wednesday terming the cessation of hostilities as a sensible and opportune development for re-establishing stability in a world facing increasing global volatility.

Karra highlighted that the ceasefire signals a growing international understanding that enduring peace cannot be achieved through continuous escalation. Instead, he asserted, it must stem from a balanced engagement that respects national sovereignty, acknowledges valid concerns, and upholds human dignity.

He further stressed the collective responsibility of the international community to leverage this temporary lull into a robust and structured peace initiative. According to Karra, the objective should be to replace mutual distrust with dialogue and to pursue stability without compromising foundational principles.

Drawing a parallel, Karra alluded to the historical Battle of Khaybar, a conflict in 628 AD between the early Muslims of Medina and Jewish tribes, noting its duration of approximately 40 days. He suggested that this historical event symbolizes perseverance, strategic patience, and unwavering purpose when confronted with persistent pressure.

The JKPCC president articulated that such historical moments serve as reminders that lasting influence is cultivated not solely through the application of force, but through the capacity to maintain composure while steadfastly defending one’s position. He concluded that the message conveyed by this period of confrontation is clear: measured restraint, underpinned by determination, ultimately paves the way for peace.
