Jammu and Kashmir: LG Sinha Inaugurates School Building, Emphasizes Education for Nation-Building

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated a new higher secondary school building at Swami Pranavanand Vidyamandir in Nagrota, Jammu, highlighting the critical role of robust educational and skill infrastructure in extending quality education to disadvantaged students and fostering development in backward regions.

The Chenab Times has learned that the newly constructed building, along with proposed skill development facilities, is expected to benefit over 1,500 underprivileged students once fully operational. The Lieutenant Governor also noted the planned introduction of a residential facility for 100 boys, which is anticipated to not only support educational pursuits but also stimulate the local economy and contribute to the overall development of the region.

The Swami Pranavanand Vidyamandir, managed by the Bharat Sevashram Sangha under its ‘Har Ghar Shiksha’ initiative since 2014, currently provides education from pre-primary to Class 8. A significant proportion of its student body comprises individuals from economically weaker sections of society.

Addressing the attendees, Lieutenant Governor Sinha urged students and educators to actively participate in nation-building. He stressed the imperative of aligning educational curricula with evolving global demands and equipping the youth to contribute to India’s aspiration of becoming a leading knowledge economy.

The Lieutenant Governor underscored the importance of holistic education, advocating for the integration of cultural awareness, effective communication skills, democratic values, and collaborative practices among students. He stated that education should extend beyond academic achievement and marks, encompassing artistic expression, physical activity, skill development, and moral upbringing.

Observing the transformative impact of artificial intelligence and automation on the contemporary workforce, Sinha emphasized the necessity of continuous learning, skilling, and upskilling to prepare human resources for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

He further elaborated on the significance of the National Education Policy (NEP), describing it as a potent mechanism for bridging rural-urban disparities and social divides, thereby enhancing societal capabilities and accelerating economic growth across the nation.

According to Sinha, genuine education must foster a blend of scientific inquiry, ethical principles, emotional resilience, and practical competencies. He affirmed that the reforms introduced by the NEP place children and young people at the core of national development strategies.

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the importance of cultivating creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and a commitment to lifelong learning, asserting that these inherent human capacities remain indispensable in an increasingly automated world.

The educational initiative at Swami Pranavanand Vidyamandir receives support from various donors, including Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum.

Among the dignitaries present at the inauguration ceremony were Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA Nagrota Devyani Rana, former Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, senior officials from the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, and representatives from Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum.
