Srinagar Gears Up for Mega Anti-Drug Rally with Lieutenant Governor Sinha

Srinagar is set to host a significant anti-drug rally on May 3, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expected to flag off the event. The rally is part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan,’ a comprehensive campaign aimed at eradicating the drug menace from the Union Territory.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to finalize arrangements for the upcoming rally. The meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioners and Heads of Departments from the Kashmir Division, underscored the importance of broad-based participation from all segments of society to ensure the rally’s success and effectively raise awareness about the escalating drug problem.

Authorities are emphasizing the involvement of social organizations, NGOs, professionals, students, farmers, public representatives, government departments, sportspersons, and other stakeholders. To facilitate widespread participation, directives have been issued for adequate transportation arrangements, ensuring the availability of drinking water facilities along the route and at the venue, and arranging refreshments for attendees.

The ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’ was launched by Lieutenant Governor Sinha on April 11 in Jammu. Since its inception, the campaign has seen participation across political lines, with common citizens, civil society members, media organizations, NGOs, religious leaders, and industrialists joining hands to combat drug abuse. The Lieutenant Governor has been actively leading various anti-drug events in different districts as part of this intensive 100-day campaign.

The campaign aims not only to raise awareness but also to complement enforcement measures. In recent weeks, authorities across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their crackdown on drug networks, leading to the arrest of numerous drug peddlers, including kingpins, and the demolition of properties linked to traffickers. The administration has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse and trafficking.

The Lieutenant Governor has stressed that winning the war against drugs requires a societal effort, extending beyond law enforcement. He has urged citizens to actively participate in community-based awareness programs and to report any information related to drug trafficking to control rooms and police helplines. The campaign’s success is being measured not just by public mobilizations but by concrete outcomes such as the number of individuals rehabilitated, drug peddlers prosecuted, and contraband seized.
