Deoria, Uttar Pradesh – A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Deoria has publicly acknowledged a traffic violation and requested the police to impose a fine on him. The incident, which occurred when the MLA was seen riding a motorcycle without a helmet, has prompted a formal request for penalization from the legislator.
The Chenab Times has learned that Shalabh Mani Tripathi, the BJP MLA representing Deoria constituency, was filmed riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. In response to the video circulating widely, Mr. Tripathi has written to the local police administration, urging them to take appropriate action and issue a fine.
According to Tripathi, the incident took place on Sunday evening. While he was at his residence, a party worker requested him to take his newly acquired motorcycle for a ride. Admitting to the violation, the MLA stated that he could not refuse the request and proceeded to ride the bike without ensuring he was wearing a helmet, which he acknowledged is a breach of traffic regulations.
In his communication to the police, Mr. Tripathi explicitly requested that action be taken against him for the infraction. He also used the occasion to address the public, emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic rules and urging all citizens to consistently wear helmets while riding motorcycles or two-wheelers.
The act of acknowledging a violation and proactively seeking a penalty, even for a minor offense, has drawn attention. Traffic safety regulations, particularly the mandatory use of helmets, are in place to mitigate the risk of severe injuries in case of accidents. Many road safety advocates have consistently highlighted the life-saving importance of helmets, especially in a country with high rates of road accidents.
The Uttar Pradesh police have been actively enforcing traffic laws across the state, with a particular focus on helmet usage and speeding. Such initiatives are part of broader efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities and injuries on the roads. The MLA’s gesture is seen by some as a move to set an example, underscoring the principle that no one is above the law, regardless of their position.
