Shaurya Chakra Awardee MARCOS Commando Amit Singh Rana Dies in Himachal Road Accident

The nation is mourning the loss of Amit Singh Rana, a decorated Indian Navy MARCOS commando and Shaurya Chakra awardee, who died in a tragic road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Monday night.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Rana, 32, lost his life after his car plunged nearly 500 feet into a deep gorge near Laharu village in the Jwalamukhi Assembly constituency. According to police, the accident occurred around 11 pm on June 1 when he was returning home after meeting a friend. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn on the hilly road.

Local residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After a difficult effort, they managed to pull him out of the gorge around midnight and shifted him to Khandian Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The final rites of the brave soldier were performed with full military honours in his native village of Laharu on Tuesday. Family members, villagers, military personnel, and local leaders gathered to pay their last respects. Jwalamukhi MLA Sanjay Ratna expressed grief over the untimely demise and hailed Rana’s contribution to national security.

Amit Singh Rana was an elite commando of the Indian Navy’s Marine Commandos (MARCOS), one of the country’s most highly trained special operations forces. MARCOS personnel are tasked with carrying out some of the most challenging missions, including counter-terrorism operations, hostage rescue, special reconnaissance, and maritime warfare. Rana was known for his exceptional courage during anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, for which he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award.

As part of Operation Rakshak in 2018, Rana participated in multiple high-risk missions against heavily armed militants operating in dense forests and difficult mountainous terrain. Despite adverse conditions and significant operational risks, he demonstrated extraordinary bravery, leadership, and professional excellence. Colleagues described him as a fearless commando who consistently put the mission and the safety of others above his own. His courage under fire and commitment to duty earned him widespread respect within the armed forces and among his fellow soldiers.

The accident has sent shockwaves through the region, with residents remembering him as a humble and dedicated soldier who brought pride to his village and state. Rana is survived by his parents, wife, four-year-old son, and two sisters. The tragic loss has not only left his family devastated but has also deprived the country of a decorated warrior whose service and sacrifice embodied the highest traditions of the Indian Armed Forces. The incident was reported with inputs from PTI.
