Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has expressed his gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the operation of a special train service between Jammu and Haridwar. This special service is intended to facilitate pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir undertaking the journey for the auspicious occasion of Somvati Amavasya.
The Chenab Times has learned that the decision aims to address the long-pending demand for improved pilgrimage connectivity for devotees. Dr. Singh stated that this move reflects the central government’s commitment to addressing the aspirations and needs of the people in the region, emphasizing that no genuine demand from the region has gone unaddressed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12-year tenure.
The request for the special train was formally forwarded to the Railway Minister on June 3, 2026, by Dr. Jitendra Singh. The representation, initially submitted by Shri Prem Nath Dogra, State Executive Member and In-Charge of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Jammu and Kashmir, sought the introduction of a special train from Jammu to Haridwar on June 14 and its return journey from Haridwar to Jammu on June 15. This timing would allow pilgrims to observe Somvati Amavasya in the holy city of Haridwar.
The Minister highlighted that the acceptance of this demand demonstrates a responsive approach to public requirements. He specifically thanked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for his positive response to the request for the special service, noting it as a significant development for the region’s pilgrims.
The introduction of this special train is anticipated to offer considerable relief to devotees planning to travel to Haridwar for the auspicious occasion. It is expected to ensure a more convenient and hassle-free travel experience for pilgrims originating from Jammu and its surrounding areas.
Local residents and religious pilgrims have reportedly welcomed the decision, characterizing it as a notable step towards enhancing connectivity and ensuring timely responses to public needs. The operational details of the special train, including its schedule and availability, are expected to be released by the Ministry of Railways in due course.
