The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a formal notice to Nestlé India concerning allegations of insect or larvae being found in a packet of Maggi noodles. This action is part of broader investigations into food safety complaints, which also involve separate notices to KFC and Flipkart.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the regulatory action by FSSAI was prompted by complaints that circulated on social media platforms. The food regulator is increasingly leveraging digital channels to identify and investigate potential food safety concerns.
In its notice to Nestlé India, the FSSAI has requested a comprehensive Action Taken Report (ATR). This report is expected to include details of batch-level quality checks, information on the suppliers involved, measures implemented for the removal of any affected products from the market, and preventative steps to avoid future occurrences. The allegations specifically relate to the discovery of insects or larvae within a Maggi noodle packet.
In a related development, an outlet of KFC in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, has also received a notice from the FSSAI. This notice addresses alleged unhygienic conditions at the outlet. The fast-food chain has been directed to submit documentation pertaining to its hygiene standards, food handling and storage practices, waste management protocols, pest control measures, and employee sanitation procedures.
Furthermore, Flipkart and the packaged food brand Open Secret are facing scrutiny from the food safety authority. This action follows a consumer complaint alleging the discovery of insects in a dates product purchased through Flipkart’s quick-commerce platform. Both companies have been asked to provide their internal quality control records and details of any corrective actions undertaken, including product withdrawal and measures to prevent similar incidents.
The FSSAI has emphasized that these notices are part of a fact-finding process. The authority stated that these initial steps do not constitute an admission of wrongdoing by any of the companies at this juncture. The firms involved have been instructed to furnish detailed responses and supporting documentation to the FSSAI before any further regulatory actions are considered.
