Information was available with The Chenab Times that indicated the fleet is set to expand, with 110 electric buses expected to be operational by June 15, coinciding with the commencement of commercial flight operations at Noida International Airport. The long-term plan is to scale up the fleet to 500 electric buses, depending on demand and operational requirements. This expansion will be implemented in phases across the three authorities: Noida, Greater Noida, and YEIDA.

Hydrogen Buses Highlight Technological Advancement

The inclusion of three hydrogen-powered buses represents a pioneering effort in Uttar Pradesh’s public transport sector. These buses, provided by NTPC, are part of the Green Hydrogen-Based Mobility Project and are designed to operate within the YEIDA area. Officials highlighted that the hydrogen fuel for these buses will be generated using treated sewage water, underscoring an innovative approach to resource utilization and environmental conservation. These hydrogen buses are capable of a 750 km range on a single fill and emit only water vapor, contributing zero emissions.

Inauguration of Noida Electric Bus Depot and Future Plans

During the virtual event, Chief Minister Adityanath also inaugurated the Noida Electric Bus Depot. This new facility is equipped with modern charging infrastructure, including high-speed charging stations designed to fully charge the electric buses in approximately two hours, ensuring efficient operations. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will operate the buses, with the viability gap funding to be provided by the respective development authorities. Uttar Pradesh currently has over 700 electric buses operating across 17 municipal corporations, and the state has also established electric bus manufacturing facilities to reduce external dependency.

The Chief Minister also touched upon the broader infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh, noting the state’s extensive road network and growing air connectivity with five international airports. The initiative also aligns with the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader clean air management projects and its goal to achieve net-zero emissions.
