SRINAGAR, July 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir chapter convened a high-level meeting in Srinagar to meticulously review and finalize preparations for its planned ‘Secretariat Gherao March,’ slated for July 20th. The protest aims to voice public concerns against corruption and alleged arbitrary governance.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting, held at Church Lane, was presided over by BJP Jammu & Kashmir President and Member of Parliament Sat Sharma, alongside Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma. The session brought together state office bearers, district presidents, prabharis, and morcha presidents to strategize for the upcoming demonstration.
According to a statement issued by the party, the review encompassed organizational arrangements, inter-unit coordination, worker mobilization, and logistical planning. The primary objective was to ensure the march, scheduled to commence from Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk and proceed towards the Civil Secretariat, would be conducted peacefully and with discipline.
The agenda of the protest was discussed extensively, with a strong emphasis on demanding stringent action against corruption and advocating for enhanced transparency and accountability in governmental operations. Party leaders also voiced significant concern over the perceived delays in strengthening and operationalizing Panchayati Raj Institutions across the Union Territory. They underscored the imperative of empowering grassroots democracy without further postponement, highlighting its crucial role in effective governance.
Attendees at the meeting included BJP General Secretary Anwar Khan, Secretaries Arif Raja and Mudasir Wani, State Office Bearers Sartaj Majeed, Sajad Raina, Adv Sajid Yousuf Shah, and Bilal Parray. State Spokespersons Altaf Thakur, Sahil Bashir, Manzoor Bhat, and Danish Bhat were also present, along with district prabharis, district presidents, and other senior party leaders. The collective focus was on presenting a unified front to articulate public grievances effectively during the proposed gherao.
