The mortal remains of Mohammed Aniz Abubakker, a 21-year-old student from Mangaluru who tragically passed away in Germany, are scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru in the early hours of Monday. Following their arrival, the body will be transported to his hometown in Marakada, Kunjathbail, Mangaluru, where funeral prayers and final rites will be conducted at the Kunjathbail cemetery.
Repatriation Efforts Facilitated by Joint Coordination
The repatriation process for Mohammed Aniz Abubakker’s remains was successfully completed through the coordinated efforts of several individuals and entities. Aslam Ullal, based in the Netherlands, was authorized via a power of attorney to handle the necessary formalities, including the receiving of the mortal remains. The Embassy of India in Germany, along with advocate P.A. Hameed Padubidri, a pro bono lawyer and social worker, played crucial roles in expediting the process. Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Arathi Krishna also provided significant support in facilitating and expediting the necessary procedures. The collaborative efforts of the Indian Embassy and various local social organizations were instrumental in completing the required documentation and formalities, allowing for the student’s return to his homeland for his final rites.
Circumstances of Death Under Investigation
Aniz Abubakker reportedly died in a drowning incident in Germany on July 2. Preliminary reports indicate that he had gone trekking with his classmates and friends. Subsequently, the group visited a water recreation area near the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, approximately 35 kilometers from Halle. Emergency responders were alerted and dispatched to the Landauer Bridge area, where a body was recovered from the water. The deceased was later identified, and his body was transferred to a hospital in Halle for further examination, according to advocate Hameed. German police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and four students, including two Indian nationals who were with Aniz, were taken into custody for questioning. The exact circumstances surrounding the suspected drowning are still under investigation.
Student’s Academic and Personal Background
Mohammed Aniz Abubakker was pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at the Rahn Education Institution in Halle, Germany, and was in his third semester of study. He had relocated to Germany about eighteen months prior to his death, after completing his pre-university education in Mangaluru. His father, Marakada Abubakker Siddiq, is employed with a private company in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The tragic loss has deeply affected his family and friends.
