SRINAGAR: An Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel sustained injuries when his service weapon discharged accidentally during a patrolling operation in the Magam area of Kokernag, located in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials reported on Monday.
The injured officer has been identified as Mohd Altaf Khan, son of Habibi Ull Khan. The incident occurred while he was engaged in routine patrolling duties.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the bullet grazed Khan’s foot. Prompt medical attention was administered at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Kokernag, where he received initial treatment. Following stabilization, he was transferred to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag for further medical management and specialized care.
The circumstances leading to the accidental discharge are currently under investigation, and further details are awaited from the authorities. The SOG is a specialized unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police tasked with counter-insurgency operations.
