Jammu, August 17: Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army’s Northern Command, undertook a visit to forward areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district on Monday. The visit underscored the imperative for sustained vigilance and the adoption of innovative strategies to counter evolving security challenges in the region.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that during his visit, Lt Gen Sharma reviewed the operational preparedness of the formations deployed in the sensitive border areas. He also engaged with the troops who are actively guarding the frontiers, receiving briefings on the prevailing security situation and the specific challenges associated with deployment in the rugged terrain.
The Army’s Northern Command, headquartered in Udhampur, stated in an official post on X that the commander was apprised of the operational readiness and the difficulties inherent in the demanding deployment environment. The visit aimed to assess the efficacy of existing security measures and to foster enhanced coordination among various units operating in the Poonch sector.
During his interactions with the soldiers stationed in the forward locations, Lt Gen Sharma acknowledged and commended their resilience. He recognized their commitment to maintaining mission readiness despite the arduous conditions imposed by the challenging terrain and unpredictable weather patterns. The commander emphasized the critical need for continuous vigilance and the promotion of synergy among all ranks to effectively manage the security landscape.
In a separate development, the Northern Command also reported that students participating in the Higher Defence Management course visited the Command Headquarters in Udhampur. These ‘scholar-warriors’ received comprehensive briefings on a range of critical aspects, including the prevailing security environment, operational imperatives, dynamics of counter-militancy operations, operational logistics, the absorption of new technologies, and overall capability development within the Command’s operational jurisdiction.
