Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq has called upon the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to introspect their actions before protesting against the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Sadiq stated that the current government has been working diligently to address the concerns and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the government’s focus on development, public welfare, and the strengthening of democratic institutions within the region. According to Sadiq, the Omar Abdullah-led administration has been committed to improving the lives of residents by tackling issues such as unemployment, infrastructure deficiencies, and neglected sectors like tourism, health, and education.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Sadiq emphasized the government’s dedication to overhauling the governance framework to be more accessible and accountable, with a focus on inclusive development. He asserted that youth employment and creating safe environments for them to pursue their careers are key objectives for the government. Furthermore, ensuring optimal working conditions for transport workers is also considered a fundamental aspect of their pro-people agenda. The government, he added, is unwavering in its commitment to fulfilling its promises.
Sadiq also defended the Chief Minister’s stance on the restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir, arguing that these demands are constitutional. He countered criticism from the BJP, stating that discussions on federalism cannot be ignored and that the demands are for rights that were constitutionally guaranteed and subsequently revoked. He questioned the timing of the criticism, suggesting that Independence Day is also a time to uphold democratic values, including freedom of expression, and to voice the concerns of the people.
The National Conference spokesperson further alleged that the PDP has been engaged in “cheap politics” and is more concerned about “neighbors rather than her own people.” Sadiq also criticized the BJP and PDP, accusing them of playing political games rather than working for the welfare of the people, and claiming they are united in their efforts to prevent the assembly from functioning properly.
Sadiq expressed confidence that statehood for Jammu and Kashmir will be restored in the coming months. He cited the Supreme Court’s verdict, the assurances from the Prime Minister and Home Minister, and a resolution from the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir as reasons for optimism. He also noted that the NC has invited leaders from various political parties, including the BJP, and civil society organizations to join their campaign for statehood restoration, aiming to make it a collective movement for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
