A tragic accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway-44 in Ramban district claimed the life of one woman and left another injured after an LPG tanker collided with their scooty on Friday.
The Chenab Times has learned that the incident occurred near Chamba Seri, a location within Ramban district. The deceased has been identified as Shakeela, wife of Sameer Ahmed Tantray, a resident of Seri. The injured woman, identified as Rafia Farooq, daughter of Farooq Ahmed Wani, also hails from Kundi Karol in Ramban.
According to official reports, the two women were travelling on a scooty bearing registration number JK19-0393 when the LPG tanker struck their two-wheeler. The driver of the tanker reportedly fled the scene immediately following the collision.
Station House Officer (SHO) Ramban, Vikram Singh Parihar, stated that the tanker was subsequently traced and apprehended at the Nashri Police Naka. The apprehension was facilitated by the utilization of CCTV footage from cameras strategically placed along the accident site on NH-44.
A swift rescue operation was initiated immediately after the accident. Despite these efforts, Shakeela succumbed to her injuries sustained in the collision. Rafia Farooq was transported to the District Hospital Ramban for medical treatment. Her condition has been described as stable and she is reported to be out of danger.
The Ramban police have taken cognisance of the incident and have commenced a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident. The investigation aims to ascertain the sequence of events and establish accountability.
