Jammu and Kashmir Leader Meets Iranian President and Foreign Minister in New Delhi

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent leader from Jammu and Kashmir, held separate meetings with the President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mr. Abbas Araghchi, in New Delhi. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS Summit.

He conveyed solidarity with the people of Iran, particularly during what he described as a difficult period, and reiterated his conviction that confrontations should cease.

Mirwaiz Farooq emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the most effective means to resolve differences, regardless of their magnitude. He stated, “Confrontation cannot resolve issues. However grave the differences, the way forward is ultimately through dialogue, diplomacy and engagement.”

The leader also highlighted the importance of unity within the Muslim Ummah, stressing the need to avoid political conflicts and sectarian divisions. He pointed to growing Islamophobia and the significant suffering experienced by Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon as reasons for this internal cohesion.

Reflecting on the historical ties between Kashmir and Iran, Mirwaiz Farooq noted the deep influence of Persian scholarship, literature, art, craft, and spirituality on the region. He presented both the Iranian President and Foreign Minister with a specially crafted walnut-wood model of the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar, symbolizing the enduring bond between the people of Kashmir and Iran.
