In Uttar Pradesh’s Dompur village, a domestic dispute escalated violently when a man allegedly attacked his wife with a stone and bit her multiple times after being served potato curry for dinner. The incident, which occurred on the evening of October 12, resulted in critical injuries to the woman, police confirmed.
The Chenab Times has learned that a case has been registered against the accused, identified as Om Prakash Vishwakarma, based on a complaint filed by his wife, Preeti Vishwakarma, aged 40.
According to Circle Officer Rajiv Kumar Singh, the altercation began when Om Prakash inquired about the dinner preparation. Upon being told that potato curry was cooked due to limited availability of other ingredients, the husband allegedly became enraged and launched a brutal physical assault. During the attack, he is accused of biting Preeti on various parts of her body and repeatedly striking her head with a stone. Following the assault, the accused reportedly fled the scene, leaving Preeti unconscious.
The couple’s children, witnessing their mother’s state, raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to intervene. The injured woman was initially taken to a community health centre before being referred to the district hospital due to the severity of her injuries. Her condition has reportedly improved since then.
Preeti Vishwakarma lodged a formal complaint with the police on Wednesday. Based on her statement, a case has been registered against Om Prakash Vishwakarma under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused is currently absconding, and authorities are actively pursuing efforts to apprehend him.
The incident highlights a disturbing pattern of domestic violence, with the motive appearing to be a trivial culinary preference. The legal proceedings are underway to ensure justice for the victim and hold the perpetrator accountable for his actions. The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking to gather further evidence and apprehend the absconding suspect.
The Uttar Pradesh police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of Om Prakash Vishwakarma. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaced the Indian Penal Code earlier this year, aims to modernise India’s criminal laws. Section 109 pertains to attempted murder, indicating the gravity of the alleged assault. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, underscoring the need for greater awareness and intervention in cases of domestic abuse.
The police are also investigating the circumstances leading up to the attack and interviewing witnesses to piece together the full sequence of events. The family’s children are reportedly being provided support in the aftermath of the traumatic incident. The village community has expressed concern over the matter, with many calling for swift justice.
The authorities have stated that they are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will not tolerate such acts of violence. Efforts are being made to trace the accused, who is believed to be evading arrest. The investigation is proceeding with urgency, and further details are expected to be released as the case develops.
