Fourteen producers, including those behind the films ‘Mother Bhumi’ starring Fan Bingbing, the Cannes Un Certain Regard selection ‘Rehana Maryam Noor,’ and the BBC One and Stan drama ‘The Tourist,’ have been chosen for the inaugural Producers Exchange program at Indonesia’s JAFF Market. This significant initiative aims to foster international collaboration and exchange within the film industry.
The Chenab Times has learned that the selected group will participate in the third edition of the JAFF Market, scheduled to take place from November 28-30 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The market runs concurrently with the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF), a prominent event celebrating Asian cinema.
This new Producers Exchange program is designed to connect emerging and established producers from various regions, offering them a platform to share insights, develop projects, and build new partnerships. The inclusion of producers whose works have garnered international acclaim signals the program’s commitment to high-caliber participants.
‘Mother Bhumi,’ an anticipated project, features the prominent Chinese actress Fan Bingbing. ‘Rehana Maryam Noor,’ a Bangladeshi film, previously screened in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, highlighting its artistic merit and critical recognition. ‘The Tourist,’ a co-production between BBC One and the Australian streaming service Stan, has achieved widespread viewership and critical praise for its compelling narrative and performances.
The JAFF Market, held in the cultural heart of Indonesia, Yogyakarta, serves as a vital hub for networking and business development in the Asian film landscape. Its expansion with the Producers Exchange underscores a growing emphasis on facilitating cross-border co-productions and talent development. The festival itself is known for its dedication to showcasing diverse Asian cinematic voices and fostering dialogue on contemporary film issues.
Participating producers will have the opportunity to engage in curated meetings, panel discussions, and networking events designed to facilitate meaningful connections. The program’s focus on exchange is expected to yield new collaborative projects and a deeper understanding of global filmmaking trends.
While specific details about the projects these producers will be presenting or developing during the exchange are not yet public, their previous works suggest a diverse range of genres and artistic ambitions. The initiative is anticipated to strengthen the visibility of Indonesian cinema on the international stage while also providing a valuable opportunity for global filmmakers to engage with the vibrant Asian market.
The JAFF Market and its associated festival have become increasingly important fixtures on the international film calendar, attracting filmmakers, distributors, and industry professionals from around the world. The introduction of the Producers Exchange marks a strategic enhancement to the event’s offerings, aiming to cultivate the next generation of globally recognized film producers.
