Srinagar, April 21 — Several major highways in Jammu and Kashmir, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Sinthan Road, and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road, remained closed on Sunday following heavy snowfall and landslides over the past 48 hours, officials said.
A traffic department official confirmed that operations along NH-44, the SSG road, and Sinthan road are currently suspended due to hazardous conditions. No timeline has been provided for the resumption of traffic as road clearance operations are ongoing.
However, the Mughal Road, which serves as an alternative route connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Jammu region via Poonch, is open to light motor vehicles (LMVs) traveling from Shopian towards Poonch.
“Traffic on the Mughal Road is being permitted only from Herpora between 1000 hrs and 1500 hrs,” the official said, adding that strict adherence to the travel window is advised.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid traveling on the affected routes until further notice and to monitor official advisories for updates.
Further details are awaited.
