Brutal Axe Attack on Mules in Kishtwar’s Sangrambhata Sparks Outrage

Kishtwar, May 26 – A shocking incident of animal cruelty has emerged from the Sangrambhata area of Kishtwar district, where at least five to six mules were found severely injured following a brutal axe attack. A video showing the aftermath of the assault, including one mule with an axe still embedded in its back, has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage across the region.

The video, recorded shortly after the attack, does not capture the perpetrator but reveals the horrifying injuries sustained by the animals. According to local residents, the assailant fled the scene before the video was taken.

Speaking to The Chenab Times, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan confirmed that authorities are taking the matter seriously. “This act of cruelty is unacceptable. We are coordinating with the police to identify the person responsible and ensure strict legal action is taken,” the DC said.

Police sources said that upon receiving the report, DySP Headquarters Kishtwar, SHO Kishtwar, and a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) rushed to the location to begin a detailed investigation. Statements from witnesses are being collected, and veterinary support was arranged to treat the injured animals.

While the motive remains unclear, local sources suggest the animals may have entered agricultural fields, potentially prompting the attack. However, community members were unanimous in condemning the violence.

“Even if the mules entered someone’s land, this level of brutality is inexcusable,” said a local resident, Abdul Gani. “These are voiceless animals. No reason can justify such cruelty.”

“This is not just about one incident—it’s about the values we uphold as a society,” said Burhan Dar, a social activist from Kishtwar. “We must ensure justice is delivered.”

The Kishtwar police have asked anyone with information related to the attack to come forward. As of now, no arrests have been made.
