Adolf Hitler Uunona, a 59-year-old politician bearing the name of the infamous Nazi leader, is expected to secure re-election in Namibia’s upcoming parliamentary vote, according to the country’s electoral commission.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Uunona, first elected in 2020, won 85 percent of the vote in the Omupanda constituency. He serves as a member of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), the party that has governed Namibia since independence in 1990.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the electoral commission anticipates Uunona will again claim a majority in the November 27 election. SWAPO remains the dominant force in Namibian politics.
Uunona has repeatedly clarified that his name carries no connection to the ideology or atrocities of Adolf Hitler. “Despite my name, I have no association with the ideology or actions of Adolf Hitler and have no intentions related to genocide or global domination,” he stated in past interviews.
The name, common among some Namibian families due to historical baptisms unrelated to Nazism, has drawn international attention but not affected his local support. No further statements from Uunona or SWAPO were immediately available.
